Affordable software development in Salida, Colorado, Chaffee County "Through my experience I can accomplish advanced tasks rapidly, thereby saving my clients investment in time and money." - Dave Bowers Career Summary Visual studio, VB.Net/ASP.Net, Crystal Reports, Microsoft Access database, SQL Server, thin client, Office integration, Adobe CS3 web development. Serving in Colorado 9 years. 24 years experience. Bowers Freelance Software, LLC was founded in the year 2000 when I moved to Colorado. I have been developing with Visual Studio since 1998 and most recently with VB.net, ASP.net, SQL server and Crystal Reports. I currently maintain a custom VB/ASP.net application I have written and maintained since October of 2004 for a major company out of Vail, CO. This application has saved them countless hours and dollars in many ways, keeping track of vendors, models, purchase orders and various reports previously that took months to generate they can now produce in seconds. Since 2007, I have been writing web based thin-client application using ASP.net Visual Studio 2005 with SQL server 2005 in a three-tier solution with browser. This also includes Crystal Reports development, with over 50 advanced reports integrating also Adobe PDF and Excel. I am a 1985 graduate of the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology with a BS in Computer Science. My career has spanned 24 years, working in State government (SD Dept of Transportation), Defense (McDonnell Douglas), Banking (First National Bank of Omaha), and several other industries (such as Active.com and Encoda Systems with C++) For a few years I followed a path of sales and enjoyed working directly with the public. Today I use this experience to provide custom software development as a freelancer. I would like to emphasize my other experience developing many applications with Microsoft Access as well as recent web development. I can quickly develope a basic Microsoft Access database, set up gui interfaces, create queries and adhoc reports for the client. Microsoft Access is an excellent tool for creating quick and easy databases to replace those outdated spreadsheets or word processing documents. Instead, many of these existing files can be integrated but save you many headaches in an affordable manner. For First National bank of Omaha, I developed many individual database systems for several departments and successfully implemented them within the desired timeframe. My strength lies in debugging systems and fixing them rapidly. Most of my experience is in Microsoft software interfaces, windows development, gui interface, middleware, backend database, and reporting development. In 1998, I carried this experience forward when I returned to South Dakota to work for Kent Bowers and BPro (no relation). While on this team, I developed and maintained many Microsoft Access systems for the State of South Dakota in various state departments. I worked for BPro from 1998 to 2000, when I then moved to Boulder, CO. I also maintain a Visual Basic/Microsoft application for Body Fat Test dunk and reporting program (www.bodyfattest.com) that uses Microsoft Access 2007 and Visual Basic with editing screens and several reports including the main dunk report rebuilt into Microsoft Access, a complex interactive report used for customer printout. My recent web development experience includes using Adobe CS3, Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Illustrator, Flash, Photoshop, Frontpage and ASP.net . I can help with website setup and maintenance. I am responsible for the Central Colorado Foodshed Alliance website (www.ccfa.coop) working with excellent graphic designer Lum Pennington. Together we can develope a beautifully customed and user-friendly website in an affordable and timely way. Simple living saves my clients money I also take seriously my own responsibility on the planet by learning to live more simply and following energy conservation. I have found this to be a business model that works well in today's economy. Some of the other activities I enjoy are raising chickens and fresh eggs, growing organic food, learning permaculture, doing my radio show Local Motion themed around relocalization, Transition Town, Salida farmers market booth offering locally raised organic foods such as buffalo brats and breakfast burritos, and getting my recently converted 1974 Superbeetle to all-electric by Salida Conversions (now Evolve-it www.evolveitmotors.com). I would be especially excited about software development involving sustainability and/or agriculture. I have received my permaculture design certificate from Scott Pittman in 2006 and apply more of this knowledge to my life. My home office is simple and I keep my expenses low, thereby saving my clients exhorbitant costs and I can pass along the savings by charging less per hour. This is significant in our recessionary economy to be able to offer such high quality service with significant budget savings. I am happy to serve especially the area around Chaffee County as my schedule allows. I look forward to hearing from you! Dave Bowers Local Motion radio show. Fridays live on KHEN 106.9 FM.
